Young CW specialist prizes and awards

for young professionals - aged under 35 - together with students and graduates of science and engineering in the field of constructed wetland

The IWA specialist group on the use of macrophytes in water pollution control will be giving prizes and awards to young professionals with outstanding and innovative papers/projects within the field of constructed wetlands which are presented during the conference.

The awards and prizes aim to provide a peer review and public platform for the work of young professionals, and, at the same time, serve as a valuable source of fresh ideas and inspiration. The awards and prizes will also recognize young professionals for their intellectual and academic contributions that exhibit originality and excellence, and which will genuinely enhance and further knowledge in the field of constructed wetlands.

It is therefore an exciting opportunity for young professionals to get their work noticed and appreciated by their specialist group, while at the same time, afford a forum for professional peer networking. All young professionals working in the constructed wetland field are encouraged to participate in this specialist competition by sending a brief CV (1 page) and a cover note (justifying why they should be considered) alongside their manuscript submission to the conference secretariat. This is the first time that these awards and prizes will be made and it will be based on both the report of the conference panel of judges and feedback from audience with both having equal weighting. It is therefore required that all participating young professionals register for the conference and present their work during the conference.

The IWA specialist group on the use of macrophytes in water pollution control is pleased to announce that a total of six prizes will be given to young CW specialists during the conference. These prizes are grouped into two categories:

  1. Presentation category: There would be three prizes awarded here for the best overall YP presentation and two runner’s ups
  2. Manuscript submission: The essence of this category is to recognize YP manuscripts which highlights or are deemed to be a significant contribution to the field of macrophytes and constructed wetlands for pollution control. Similarly, there would be three prizes for the best overall, second and third places respectively.

YP’s being considered for prizes in the first category must present their work at the conference, while prizes in the second category will essentially be focused on the quality and significance of work described in the participating YP manuscript.

There would also be a mentoring programme which is aimed at providing a contact and means of support for the professional and personal development of YP’s within the specialist group (SG). Senior colleagues within the SG who share similar professional interest as the YP’s would be matched with the respective YP. It will be a great opportunity for YP’s at the conference to connect with senior professional colleagues and enhance their knowledge, skills and experience. It will also add value to their networking. Young professionals are highly encouraged to participate in these programmes and the relevant link has now been provided here or alternatively through the author’s homepage.
